Depression: Learning to Deal

Depression sucks. Some end up drinking and drugging themselves into oblivion because of it. Causes vary by what you have or do not have such as a job, relationship, money or a dream aspiration unfulfilled. Either way, if it feels out of control, talk to a pro. There are meds you can take or natural remedies which can be just as effective (see Adviseman article: Depression: Let Nature Pick You Up). Below are some non-med, non-herbal remedies for dealing with occasional depression.

Other Quick Fixes for Depression
It is an illness when debilitating and controlling your life, however handling mild depression with some of these quick fixes may be helpful.
• Forget the Label – Constantly verbalizing that you are depressed will continue to convince yourself that you are. Sometimes, positive affirmations rather than succumbing to negative labels can slowly help lift you up.
• It Will Disappear – Knowing that depressive feelings will eventually disappear is as good as seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
• Get Some Touch – Massage or simply hugging friends can release the feel good brain chemical serotonin.
• Happiness Eats – Stay away from foods that drag down your energy like processed, packaged sweets or sodas. Eat live fruits and vegetables and feel the happiness surge.
• Sun Move – Get out of bed or off the couch. Moving the body through a sun filled day does two things: 1) It forces stagnant energy to move and energize you. 2) Sunlight is a natural vitamin and dopamine (another feel good brain chemical) enhancer.

Yes, depression sucks but if you grab a hold of it with your teeth and shake it off it will go back in its hole and leave you alone.
