Rick Santorum: Courageous Leader or Religious Fanatic?

There is a reason Village Voice columnist, Dan Savage, held a contest to turn Rick Santorum’s last name into a new definition for anal sex fluid making it a first page Google search. There is a reason so many Conservatives are flocking around Santorum’s familial, religious, “pro-American” message. Either way, more than any other 2012 Presidential candidate, Rick Santorum wholly represents the bipartisan, class warfare that has plagued this country since George W. Bush made a mockery of everything American.

Quick Roots

Born in Virginia, Santorum received his law degree from Dickenson School of Law and served as a U.S Senator for Pennsylvania from 1990-2007. After his Senatorial career he worked in the private sector as a consultant, attorney and news contributor. He has seven children, does not believe in birth control (obviously) or same sex marriage and looks a little like Pinocchio.

Church and State

A devout, opinionated Catholic, Santorum speaks to throngs of devout followers that remain stead fast to the Bible. He not only presents his stand with the ultimate conviction, he lives it. His life seems to be free of the many skeletons that have plagued (but not hindered) the other candidates (except for Cain). Santorum walks the walk regardless of any outcry that may ensue. Some quotes he has uttered regarding his views include:

‘This Week’ February 2012: “I don’t believe in an America where the separation between church and state is absolute. The idea that the church can have no influence or no involvement in the operation of the state is absolutely antithetical to the objectives and visions of our country.”

February 2012 CPAC Speech: “One of the favorite things of the left is to use your sentimentality, and your proper understanding and belief that we are stewards of this earth and we have a responsibility to hand off a beautiful earth to the next generation. ‘They use that and they have used it in the past to try to scare you into supporting radical ideas on the environment. They tried it with this idea, this politicization of science called man-made global warming… I stood up and fought against those things. Why? Because they will destroy the very foundation of prosperity in our country.”

Tea Party Speech February 2012: “President Obama once said he wants everybody in America to go to college. What a snob!”

2003 AP Interview:“If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual (gay) sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything.”

Recently running alongside Mitt Romney and every so often pulling ahead, Rick Santorum is enjoying a good stride. Each hour of his daily Presidential run is crucial in competing with his pale, often entertaining challengers that just may have him head to head with snobby Obama on November 6th. It could be the cage match of the Century.
