How to Stick to Your New Year’s Resolutions

 

It came and went and you are still wondering how to stick to your New Year’s resolutions. Like a dark cloud hanging over your every move, such a commitment can often be overwhelming resulting in discouragement before any progress even begins. Below are a few pointers to help you stay on track and attain the goal or goals you have put out there for yourself.  If all else fails, you can always drink yourself into oblivion and forget you ever made a goddamn resolution in the first place. That is, unless it was to stop drinking.

Do Not Tell Anyone

When you run around announcing your New Year’s resolutions to anyone that will listen you are setting yourself up for a big fall. Friends and family will use your mission as conversation material and you will constantly be bombarded with a requested progress report. Make it a private path of your own and by the time you attain it you will hear all sorts of impressed accolades.

Be Precise

By making specific choices you will be able to hone in on your resolution with great precision. Don’t say that you want to lose weight, say you want to lose an exact amount in an exact time. Don’t say you will stop cursing say you will stop saying the word fuck.

In Your Grill

See your resolution in front of you. Write it on a piece of paper or make it your screen saver. It will be in your face and unavoidable reminding you to stick with it.

Do Not Wait

If your resolution requires specific action then start right away. Once you make excuses like you can’t get to the gym that day; or buy those weight loss shakes because you’re broke; or promise yourself that next week you’ll stop jacking it five times a day; will eventually have your resolution fail.

Limit Your Goals

Too many resolutions are a recipe for disaster. Stick to one or two decisions and that is it. It will be easier to focus and chances are much higher for success.

Stay Away from Your Nemesis

If you have decided to lose twenty pounds in six months then remove yourself from scenarios that will tempt you. This may mean that you cannot sit down to dinner with friends or family for
a while or go to bars if you are cutting back on drinking. Do not make it harder for yourself than it already will be.

Follow the Rule of 21

Studies show that when kicking a habit or addiction it takes twenty-one days to get over the hardest hump. Knowing this will keep you focused on your goal knowing that after twenty-one days it will only get easier.

If you put as much effort into how to stick to your New Year’s resolutions that you do in getting some tail or playing your new Xbox game, then chances are you will succeed. Stay focused, stay strong and finish what you start.
